It’s got to be Funky” – Mr. Brown said it!! Once in a while you just have to let loose and get up and groove. Who can say that serious Modern Jazz can’t groove, be funky and danceable? No one who checks out this episode or has a genuine love for Jazz!! While this one episode is sure to please, I am certain that we will revisit this topic again and again. There is a lot of great grooving jazz out there and I want you to here it all! Stand up, crank up the stereo or computer speakers, and groove, groove groove! Enjoy!!

The Scandinavian Trios are some of my favorites in the modern jazz style. In the league with EST and Helge Lien is one of my new favorites the Tingvall Trio. Combining the piano compositions of Swedish Martin Tingvall with Cuban bass player Omar Rodriguez Calvo and German drummer Jurgen Spiegel , gives this ensemble a bit of a different edge from the others. But you can still hear the isolation and sorrow of the Northland, intertwined with melodies that captivate, harmonies that envelop and rhythms that carry you away. I know – I sound a bit poetic – but this music just puts me in that frame of mind. I can relax, unwind, think of summers one by and winters to come and just enjoy a great trio of modern jazz. I know you’ll love them – Enjoy!!

One of my favorite albums is Tutu by Miles Davis. It defined his last music period at the end of his career and inspired so many musicians to push boundaries and think differently about what jazz is and how to play it. Marcus Miller played bass on those sessions and he has revisited the album with a new group of musicians. This version is updated for today’s sound but retain’s Miles’ melodies and intentions. I like it and think you will enjoy it as well!!

It’s time again to check out some of the tunes I have been listening to for the past month or so. There is so much great music out there, sometimes it can be hard to select just a couple hours worth to play for you. I think you will enjoy the mix, some funk, some jam, lot’s of modern jazz. Enjoy!!
